Kincardine Launches Beach Blazers Program

Kincardine has launched the Beach Blazers Volunteer Program. Similar to the Trail Blazers program last fall, Beach Blazers walk Station Beach during peak beach times acting as ambassadors and an extra set of eyes for the municipality.... The Beach Blazers will start their work at Station Beach the week of June 24th and run until September 2nd....

Northern Bruce Peninsula Not Supportive Of Proposed Cell Tower

Northern Bruce Peninsula is not on board with a proposed cell tower. Council approved taking the stance of non-concurrence for the proposed cell tower at 75 Lindsay Road 40 during a meeting on May 13. While the final decision to install the tower is up to Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada, council can still say if it agrees with the project....

Alice Munro Dead at 92

Wingham native, short story writer and Nobel prize winner Alice Munro has passed away at the age of 92. Munro is most known for her everyday life examination through short story fiction who was well acclaimed for her stories which dove into darkness and desires found in ordinary existence. Her work eventually landed her the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2013....

Tree replanting efforts are underway at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex after Emerald Ash Borer wreaked havoc on a forested area. Owen Sound city staff cut down more than 160 ash trees during the winter — essentially the entire wooded area near the canteen — which helped provide shade and added to the overall appeal of the property....

Mike Rencheck Retiring as Bruce Power President and CEO

Bruce Power has announced President and CEO Mike Rencheck is retiring as of June 30th. Rencheck while hanging up his hat will assume the role of executive vice-chairman and serve as a senior advisory to Bruce Power. Eric Chassard the current executive vice-president of projects and engineering will be promoted to President and CEO as of July 1st. Chassard joined Bruce Power in 2019 to his current role who has led the on time and on budget delivery of the Life Extension Program....

Grey Bruce Home Listings Jumped In April

The number of homes hitting the market in Grey Bruce jumped last month. And the Realtors Association of Grey Bruce Owen Sound says average home prices ticked higher as well to over $658,000. In all, 239 units sold in April — a slight gain of 2.1 per cent over the same month in 2023....

Bruce Power has launched registration for the Summer Bus Tours once again which has expanded this year to include weekends. The tours will start up in June going each weekday then run seven days a week in July and August to meet the demand. The public is encouraged to pre-register for a free site bus tour which will kickoff June 3rd and run until August 29th....

Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Unemployment Rate Fell To 3.5% In April

The regional unemployment rate in the area that includes Bruce and Grey counties fell to 3.5 per cent in April, It’s the lowest jobless number for the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula region in nearly two years. The Four County Labour Market Planning Board says there were more than 3,200 new full-time positions created in the region last month, partially offset by the loss of 1,200 part-time jobs....
